Yuri Temirkanov — Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra
Conductor: Yuri Temirkanov
Piano: George Li
Orchestral Music: Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra
Program:
Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 in B minor
Shostakovich Symphony No. 5 in D minor, “Revolution”
Venue: The Symphony Hall
After being invited as the Artistic Director, it took Yuri Temirkanov 10 years to transform this prestigious orchestra.
It took him 10 years to change the old musicality that the members had been living by.
Such an episode teaches us it takes a long time, conviction, and effort if we want to accomplish something.

Maestro Temirkanov leads the sophisticated performance, and
his perspective stays objective with no excessive exaggeration or presentation.
And he deliberately avoids analyzing the political background of musical works
in an effort to treasure their artistic value and purity as music.
Such an attitude sometimes renders him the reputation as the conductor for the music maven.
Russian orchestras often give wildly dynamic performances,
yet Temirkanov leads his orchestra to giving the impact with precision, not wild performance, resulting in the sophistication.
And the glorious harmony adds the exquisite accent, and leaves the beautifully transparent impression
He is quite elderly, yet he stayed nonetheless passionate this day.
After the orchestra left and the stage became empty,
he reappeared in response to the applause of the audiences,
waving his hands with a big smile.
Emanating the heartwarming love and passion, he was enthusiastic and divine.
We were once again reminded that the art came from the soul.
