and we were lucky enough to be able to view it from front row seats this year as well.

プリンシパルのエレーナ・フィリピエワさんは

ウクライナの名花と謳われ

世界的なプリマ・バレリーナとして名を馳せていますが

彼女は公演終了時のカーテンコールでは

毎年観客に向かって笑顔で両手を振ってお別れの挨拶をしてくれます

そんな愛らしさにたちまち親近感を覚えてしまいます

The principal dancer Elena Filipieva

has been called a flower of Ukraine

and people praise that she is some kind of prima ballerina, but

every year in the curtain call following the show,

she faces the audience with this big smile and waves goodbye with both hands.

Even looking back now, such a cute gesture feels immediately intimate.

彼女が舞う「瀕死の白鳥」は

死と生が対峙する命ある者の闘いの尊厳を表情豊かに描写した

葛藤する魂の舞踏と言うべきものであります

滲み出る苦悩の表情とそれに対比されるあまりにも繊細で美しい姿の舞いとの調和

まさにクラシック・バレエの尊厳を見る思いです

バレエ芸術とはあまりにも人間ドラマを追求して美しく昇華した芸術表現だということ

そして最も大切なことは気高く人間尊重を謳った讃歌であることと共に　

尊厳ある人間性を深く表現した芸術であることを感じさせられるのです

そうした感動的な芸術体験を新ためて感じさせる作品の数々です

Her performance in “The Dying Swan”

expressively captures the dignity of those who live face-to-face with death and choose to fight it,

deserving to be called a dance of the conflicted soul.

There is a certain harmony in that contrast between her pained expression of suffering and her unbelievably delicate figure dancing on stage.

It felt a newfound respect for classical ballet.

The art of ballet is in its beautifully sublime expression of all-too-human drama.

And the most important thing is to sing an anthem of human dignity

and make the audience deeply feel that beautiful humanity.
