I saw Aida played by soprano Fiorenza Cedolins at the Festival Hall.

Acting ability that supports the tragic setting

The elegance of a profundity of faith adrift in the midst of suffering

She was a dramatic soprano with an overwhelming presence

生き埋めの判決を下されたラダメスが地下室に閉じ込められながらも

地下室で先に待ち受けていたアイーダと最後に抱き合いながら永遠の愛を祝福し

現生の苦悩から解放されて二人でいっしょに死んで行く結末は

深い悲しみをたたえてこの上ない愛の尊厳に打ちのめされます

I was overwhelmed by the dignity of the supreme love extolled in the profound tragedy of the finale,

when Radamès, sentenced to burial alive, even as he as shut into the tomb,

professes his eternal love in his final embrace with Aida, already awaiting him in the tomb

Choosing to die together as a couple, released from the anguish of this life.

人は何のために生きるのか

何のために死を選ぶのか

最後に生き続けるものは何なのか

舞台を観終わって帰路につきながら

自分のこれまでの生き方がいったいどうだったのか

暗い夜道に足もとを照らされながら

自分の内面と向き合って静かに内省させられました

What survives in the end?

After the production, as I made my way home,

I asked myself about the way I have lived my life so far

As my footsteps was illuminated on the dark evening street

I fell into quiet contemplation, coming face to face with my inner self
