物語はイギリスの田舎町の靴工場を舞台にして

そこに生きる人たちが「いかに生きるべきか」を

高らかに歌った日常性のある人間讃歌です

父が急死して潰れかけた靴の工場を継ぐことになったチャーリー

チャーリーはかねてから工場を継いで欲しいという父の望みを裏切り続けてきた

そのチャーリーと手を組むのはロンドンで出会った靴のデザイナーのローラ

ローラは自分がドラッグクイーンであるために父に自分を認めてもらえない

そんな父へのコンプレックスを抱えた二人が次第にお互いを知り合い

私たちは似た者同士だねと言って心を通わせていき

そして二人で潰れかけた靴工場を立て直していく

そうして二人はコンプレックスと闘う自分という人間を肯定して

自分らしく生きようともがき苦しみながら舞台は進んでいきます

この物語の背景にあるのは人間の弱さと精神性であります

コンプレックスを抱えながらも自分を肯定して積極的に生き

そこには人の愛も慰めも共感も支援も存在し、また必要ともし

人として自分をそして個性を大切にしながら

前向きに生きる人間の弱さと強さを叙情的に表した物語であります

At the shoe factory in a rural town of England,

characters in this ordinary yet touching human anthem

proudly sing “how man should live.”

After the untimely death of his father, Charlie is determined to take over the shoe factory of his father that is on the verge of bankruptcy.

He has been turning down his father’s wish to take over the shoe business.

Lola, the shoe designer whom Charlie met in London, offers to help.

Being a drag queen, Lola has been disowned by her own father.

The duo with similarly complex feeling toward their fathers get to know each other.

Learning the similar heartache they both suffer, they start to build the relationship,

and rebuild the failing shoe business together.

The story shows their struggles to live true to themselves,

accepting their real selves, the fighting men to get over the sense of inferiority.

On the background of this story is the weakness and spiritual nature of human being.

We all struggle with some sense of inferiority yet still accept who we are to live constructively.

We find love, comfort, sympathy and support in our lives, and very much need them

and embrace ourselves as human beings and our own personality.

This story lyrically depicts the weakness and strength of people who try to live constructively.
